Busy, Busy

I've been cleaning out a garden that I realized was not just a woody area in the yard. It makes me think of the garden I worked on in Florida when I was 11 years old. I didn't do a whole lot back then, but for some reason I felt the geraniums under the avocado tree were too overgrown and needed thinning. Now thinning is a big part of my life. I also found a Fig tree that needs some work. Believe me when I say this is all new to me! FIG TREE!!! I just happen to stumble across what it was, by watching a garden show this morning that highlighted a fig and said to myself "OH it's a FIG TREE!! What'd ya know!!"
So I'm off again today to thin!!

Beautiful photo! Some folks really like figs down here. I don't like to eat them- but some of my friends really like them. That is cool that you have a fig tree, though.

Quite an exotic garden you found there! Avocado and fig - looking forward to hearing about new findings.

I'm a big fan of thinning too. I do quite a bit of it in my day to day life, now that I think of it.

I LOVE figs. Fresh figs are worth their weight in gold up here where I live. Enjoy a tasty treat for me when the time comes.

I love that semi silhouette photo Evie! How fab to find a Fig tree! We planted one in our front garden last year, tho I don't know that we'll get any figs on it, given our climate, I hope you get some, they're lovely baked in the oven with some honey drizzled over them! YUM

While you were thinning we were power washing the siding in the back part of the house! I would rather be thinning!

Hi Eve!

I'm sorry for being soooo far behind on your blog.

It looks like you are really making yourself at home now between gardening, road trips, and enjoying nature. I enjoyed it all, except the spider! The Hummer with it's tongue sticking out is too funny! The sunflower looks perfect next to your front door : )

I just realized it's still 81 degrees there at 9:30 at night! Phew!

That is really a stunning photo of the swallowtail on the butterfly bush! (did I guess the plant right?) How did you get the bluish patches on the swallowtail's wings and body?

Enjoy your garden!

Thanks all! Well the avocado was from my childhood in Florida, so no avocado here, but lets hope I get some figs to try.

Gabrielle, this photo was already pretty much silhouetted. I just added enough saturation to bring out some of the color. Yes it's a butterfly bush.
I'm glad you like it!

Every year I think my fig tree has died, because it comes to life later than everything else. Probably don't have that problem in Alabama. I know what you mean about finding new stuff. At Rockwood this spring we had this beautiful flowering tree, not a clue what it was. Found one in somebody else's yard and asked. It is a flowering crab.
