Walking up the foggy driveway yesterday invoked a feeling of closeness with the woods. The fog seems to embrace you and makes you feel as if you are part of your surroundings.
Every detail in the woods became pronounced and no critter could hide his home. The grass carpet under the tree's foot looked cushy and soft...and a small hosta growing out of the forest floor caught my eye. I could'nt resist tickling this fellow out of his tunnel with a blade of grass...it works almost everytime, well at least the first time, then they wise up to your trick! And my new favorite critter...
the Five-lined Skink! What a cutie and FAST! I've comissioned him to keep the bugs to a minimum. Hope he's up to it!

Oh, girl - bugs you are going to have plenty of! Better get some more skinks - or send for the guineas!
I love skinks, and spiders in holes, and unexpected hostas, and foggy woods, and misty mornings. Have a good one!
The fog makes everything look different doesn't it?
Hey we call those blue tails here in Illinois. Everytime I walk out the back door I hear some small rustle and catch one scurrying away out of the corner of my eye. My boys have caught a few in the past, you have to be careful though. If you grab them by the tail you might just end up with a tail and no lizard!
I see a lot of those pretty skinks here also. I love those blue tails. Nice photo!
What a peaceful spot you have there. Love the skink!
Getting any boxes unpacked.....? I'm just sayin'.... ;o)
Foggy mornings, I love the stillness of it all. Love your morning walk. It's fun to share it through your photos.
I love that skink Evie, specially as he will help keep the bugs down for you! Maybe not the scorpions though! (-: You're certainly getting all sorted of different weather there so far. No snow though! (-:
Foggy morning with you are fun! I really like that skink - never have seen one before! Now I want one! LOL!
Shelley...I'm not sending you any skink feathers!!!
lots of skinks here, they are fast and so cool looking. I was wondering if you were ready for the south and it's many bugs, mosquitos are recognized as the state bird in NC:)
Love love love fog, it does kind of embrace you and cuts out a lot of the visual noise so you can focus on the details right in front of you.
Misty woodland scenes just great. A whole new photographic medium Evie.
Looks like you are already at home. Have you been eating grits and hush puppies?
Am enjoying learning your new surroundings with you.
