I took some advice from my friend Roy, The Fenland Walker, http://fenlandwalker.blogspot.com/ on using my G9 for good butterfly photos. Make sure you check out his blog, if you haven't yet, for a real treat. My little subject was getting some sun and I noticed not too concerned about me. So I thought I'd try to make a new friend. We had tea and crumpets!!
Thanks Roy!!!

What a nice new friend! I'm sure it enjoyed the tea and crumpets! Funny!
Great shot! If I am lucky enough for a butterfly to land on me like that- it always lands on my right hand- in other words that hand that I hold the camera with! I also have the Canon G9- they are a great cameras.
What a fabulous shot! I confess, I don't know what a G9 is, but I'm pretty sure I don't have one.
Thanks Hannibal...I was trying to be funny so I guess it worked!
Thanks Barb!
Daniel...so funny you mentioned that. I actually put my finger down and this fella crawled on...however it was my right hand and being right handed my first few attempts at photographing did not work, at all! So I put him down and tried it again. A very nice little butterfly to amuse me that way. So in the end all went well.
Thanks Carolynn...you are too funny. The G9, now it's the G10 the newest version, is a small but awesome Canon. A very good buy for a carry everywhere camera.
Beautiful shot! What was the tip that Roy gave you?
Thanks Danni! Roy suggested using the Program mode, macro setting and spot meter. Leave the lens fully withdrawn and move in slowly. Needless to say it worked and lucky for me this little guy wanted an English snack!! ;-)
You and Joan! I swear! LOL. I've decided that butterflies don't like men.
This is truly an awsome butterfly and a fun photo. Now I've got to go see what advice Roy has. : )
I love all the small details. It is also, hard to get a butterfly to sit on your finger, lucky
Fantastic moment, great shots ... what kind of tea do they prefer?
Eve,
I don't know much about butterflies but this one looks pretty small!..and it has its leg up in the air like it was posing!! Neat shot!
Hi Maria, don't tell Roy but they really like southern sweet tea!!!
;-)
Thanks Tina...he was getting ready to reach for his crumpet!!!
Hi Eve. Sorry I've been away from your posts for far too long.
Fabulous butterfly capture.
Great to see all those new surprises in your new garden.
Cheers Frank.
Oh, I'm envious! Fantastic shot!! I need a better camera. :-)
Hey Evie, that is one superb shot. It couldn't be bettered.
"Tea and crumpets, what a jolly smashing idea Darling."
The word verification was 'Blest'.
As you are Evie.
This is so beautiful - wow!!!
Thanks Frank, Carla!
Roy...;-)
Thank you too Shelley!
Lovely little Hairstreak, and of course Daniel has a G9! (I didn't know what that was either) Lovey post, as usual.
How cool, to have tea and crumpets with a butterfly, "Alice" in your new wonderland :-) Such a friendly little creature.
What a stunner! That Roy comes up with the odd good snippet of advice doesn't he! (-:
