Yesterday's morning sky just before the Bluebirds showed up to check out boxes. If you remember last year I lost my female and 5 babies perished. This is the box they chose last year. I wonder if that is the same male?
That was the first year I ever had bluebirds nest here.
I'm hoping things go better this year.
I'll be sure to let our new homeowners know if the birds decide to stick around.

Wishing them the best. A wet spring should bring lots of bugs for them.
Good luck bluebirds!
I hope that bluebird family makes it this year!!
Beautiful sunrise photo. I wish I'd get some bluebirds nesting here but I think my lot is too wooded.
They're so beautiful! And, I bet they sing cheerfully too. There are birds twittering outside my window right now. It's such a wonderful way to greet the day. :o)
I didn't know about the little ones last year, how sad. Wishing thid little family all the best.
Your sun/sky images are always amazing Evie.
Good luck to the bluebirds. But you have my interest now....what happened last year?

Hope you have better luck this year. We haven't had any for a few years. The Tree Swallows always get to the houses first.
B.
Thanks gang!
Leedra, last year a pair nested in the box here. I'd been checking them every now and then but didn't want to bother them too much. One day I noticed a swallow looking in the nest box and the father was in a tree not doing much about it. When I checked the babies were dead and then I realized the mother was no where to be found. I think a hawk might have gotten her at some point. Just wish I'd noticed before the babies died. So Sad.
Becky have you tried putting two houses near each other about 10' apart. The tree swallows will take one leaving the other for the bluebird...Tree swallows don't like to nest close to each other so they will shooo away other swallows. But then you have to chase off the house sparrows.
Thanks guys! Leedra, I think a hawk got the female and when I realized it...it was too late.
Becky...do you have two boxes about 10' apart? The swallows should take one and won't let another swallow in but will let other types of birds nest there.
I'm no expert though...this is only the second year I've had bluebirds here at all!!
The sunrise is gorgeous and so are the bluebirds. I keep planning to get a bluebird box and keep forgetting. Probably too late now, but will still get one. I don't know of a good spot to put one in our yard. Will they come to it on a tree?
