I know you've heard me talk about the wind here where I live and yesterdays post showed the Kids lined up to take it head on, but when I say it's windy around here you can bet I'm not joking around. Wednesday the winds were so strong that even the ice on Lake Ontario couldn't withstand it. I'm taking pictures from the south end of Point Peninsula near Dexter NY.
As we drive around the tip you can see the beginning of a problem.
The wind just pushed the ice right into the shore. 
Heading toward the road. Thank goodness the wind died down before it got too far in. 
Looking back.
Whoops.
I think the view is not great this time of year anyway but...
this is really pushing it. 
Oh Dear! I hope no one was having a cocktail!!

Wow - amazing photos!! They should put a wind turbine out there!
Hi Shelley. Yes the wind is quite abundant here and "they" want to put turbines all over the place up here but it is a major migration route and I think it would not be a good idea for the birds. I think a better idea would be to give home owners insentive to put up their own small wind turbines and not the big monsters that will soon cover the landscape.

Isn't it strange to think of the wind moving flat ice? I've seen it like that on Lake Superior too. It can cause quite a bit of damage.
Wow...that is amazing! I've never seen anything like that. How awful to have that pile up in your yard! We always avoided visiting the Great Lakes in winter, but this really looks like a huge problem for those who live along there.

That is SO bizzare. I've never seen anything like that. How surreal it must be for the people living in that house!

OMG - I had read and heard this was happening, but I hadn't seen any photographs of it until now. This is amazing - I've never seen anything like it. I guess this must just swallow up entire houses close to the shoreline? Imagine seeing this devastation slowly coming toward you, yet being able to do absolutely nothing about it.
This ice is incredibly beautiful, but terrifying.

I had seen this on the news I believe. They showed it going right into peoples homes, and backhoe's trying to dig it out. Guess it is a testament to the harsh and long winter we've had. Or does this happen every year?
I guess it really pays to be careful where you put your house. I don't think too much in damage came from this...well, in houses, but I bet a number of docks were under that ice! It doesn't happen often.
Looks like that was some wind to blow all that ice around like that. Hopefully it will be a lot warmer when you get moved. Helen
