Weekend Wonders...

We had a beautiful weekend here in the North Country. Our weather is rather odd because each year, as the rains come through, there seems to be a big bubble over us which steers the rain all around where we live. So while others were getting needed rain we were getting great views of it.
At the same time I was delighted to photograph the Giant Swallowtail, which is a rare find in this area. As a matter of fact last year I found one here and it was the first recorded for my county! I was so happy to find another this year! The skies were breathtaking. A ragged Comma stopped by as well. The rain finally hit here but really just a dribble! Hope your weekend was full of adventure!

Wonderful photos and lucky you with the rain. It seems that's all that we've been getting lately around here, just last Thursday we had 4 and half inches. The biggest bummer is I haven't ridden my motorcycle much.

Good Morning Eve, gorgeous photos. Love those butterflies and pretty flowers, and the sky photos are awesome.

Hi John! I've heard about your rain from my cousin as well! Yikes! This has been the best garden year I've had in a long time but it's probably too much for the flower there!! I heard about the tornado in Gorham as well!! Well, if it makes you feel better I haven't put many miles on my bike either...probably doesn't! Hope it dries up a bit!

That swallowtail is beautiful and I don't think I have ever seen that one before. The clouds are great in that last shot! We could use rain, too.

Well done about getting the Swallowtail again Eve. Dramatic cloud images as well. Umm What was that saying "The sun only shines on the righteous".

Hi Eve

Love those clouds....full of foreboding. Glad I wasn't up in a plane in that! (-: What's the usual distribution for that Swallowtail?

Hi Denise! Thanks!

Hi Mary I actually saw two today in the garden! They are very large and quite a sight!

Hi Barb…that sky was a bit scary but really didn’t amount to much here.

Hey Roy…Well, I must be pretty darn righteous!!!! :-)

Hi Jenny,
The Giant Swallowtail is found south of Lake Ontario and east. Then in the south and Midwest but not in the west. I'm a bit over its range.

Hi Gill, thank you again!

Hello Eve

More lovely shots - I like messing around with clouds a bit and am waiting for a nice sunset - raining today so not much chance I guess! Love the Swallow Tail.

Best wishes, Adrian

Swallowtails are my very favorite butterflies (with apologies to the comma, of course). I'm getting better at IDs, but I still find it really, really hard to tell different species apart.

Morning Eve.. great photos! Congrats on the giant swallowtail. stunning I love the contrast of your flowers. Hope you get your much needed rain... Have a great week...

Hi Adrian!
Thanks, hope it clears up soon so you can get walking!

Hi Kathryn…woof Ari! It is sometimes very hard to ID the faster, smaller, butterflies. But it does get easier over time. The giant swallowtails are easy tho….when you see a butterfly and you thought is was a small bird you know it’s a Giant!!

Thanks Stacey! You have a great week too. Hope it brings you many new adventures!
