HEY! What a Day....

First they cut...Then they fluff... next they pile... Then the big dog comes...
and poops them out.

That's the technical term!
It's a big job. Then evening comes... and the job is done.
And they are all still here in the morning.I love looking out my front porch this time of year!

Hey, I'm glad you showed how they do that. Always wondered how them make the round bales. I grew up watching them make the old fashioned regtanglar bales at my grandma's farm. Loved riding on the hay wagon when we visited as kids :-)

This is quite a common sight this time of year around here too. In the old days they did this all with horses and by hand, hard to imagine.

I can't really explain why but I really love the look of round hay bales in fields.

Hi Mary,
Hey! Anytime!!!

Hi John,
There are a lot of Amish around here that still do it the old fashion way!!! Not so hard to imagine here!!

Hi Lynne!!
I love the bales in the fields too, especially mine....sadly they are already picking them up today!!!

Hey Eve

Lovely evocative pictures. As John says in his post in times long gone by they used to do this with horses - heavy horses we call them or Shires to give them the correct title. I often wish we could go back to those times - farmers employing lots of men to do these heavy physical jobs and all in an environmentally friendly way. I am not sure that progress really equals progress! Love the previous post as well - not seen a painted lady for ages.

Take care, Adrian

Hi Evie

You seem to get that lovely low mist quite a bit. Is there a river there or something? Just thought, I should go and look on GE and see for myself! By the way, thanks for your short e-chat earlier, twas a big help!

Hi Bird girl,
These guys are great, they cut and bale so quickly, then the bales never sit long. But I don't mind if they sit for a few days because I love to look at them and the red-tail hawks LOVE to sit on them. I'm a bit sad tho because they are picking them up today!!!
PS Check you last post comments...blooper one...I left another comment for you.

Hi Adrian!
I think it would be really hard to keep up with feeding all the people without this way of doing it. But if more people grew there own food sure. It's a catch 22 isn't it!! I love the Shire horses and just the word Shire evokes a simpler time...my favorite books are the "Lord of the Rings" series. I love thinking about the "Shire" and it's sweet folk!!

Hi Jenny,
You'll see a big pond out there, that's not on my property and I've actually never been out there. I have a thing about trespassing...just cant do it because so many people trespass on mine! Well I still feel bad about KT. Just remember you gave him a wonderful 15 years...which is a lot for a cat! He must have been very well loved!

That last picture is AMAZING - very evocative!
And I see that you and I went to the same technical school. I've got things "pooping" things out all over the place here, too!
lol
and hey, i found the pic of daisy lu watching the critter farm chicks today - how is that sweet girl doing with the guineas?

Eve said...

Hi Danni! I just emailed you!! I thought you would like that tech term!!
Oh Daisy Lu is just another Guinea. She hangs with them all the time. I think she thought she was going to be able to fly with them yesterday when they all took off and she was running along with them! It'll be sad when they leave her behind and she turns to look at me and say..."what happened mom?"

What a great view from your porch. Makes me wish I had one with a view like that. I'd be sipping my lemonade and I wouldn't be able to move for a good long time with a view like that. These photos are really nice.

Hi Denise,
Well, I have this little problem...I'm one of those who can't sit still for more than a few minutes!!! I try and try to sit and just relax...then I think of something I have to do...I usually start to do it...forget what it was and then go on to something else!!!
What a life!!! ;-)
Thank you for your comments!

Eve,
Having been brought up around farming, you lost me after 'First they cut". I like your technical terms though.
