Yesterday...

I had to shovel a walk for Morgan to get to the bus yesterday, there was another 6 inches drifted up to a foot in the driveway. Daisy Lu just said goodbye from the porch. That little back dot out there is Morgan!! The Plow Man came at about 10:30 so we got out for a little bit. Took my mom home and Julie when to the Primitive Shop not far from my home.
I took my camera, and a little cash!I love this old phone booth in the corner of the shop. Julie found this print and the wooden spoons, and I got the beautiful runner for my table.
I just love the yellow, red and green plaid.Julie will be on her way home tomorrow (sad face here). Hopefully the Lake Effect snow will stop for at least one day so she wont have to endure that mess!!!

Now she understands why I don't travel from November to March!!!

We got another 4 inches last night and it's far from over.

Snow for everyone....

I think most people who read my blog have gotten enough snow for one year already and I'm hoping no one is being affected by the ice storms that hit yesterday. So far since Julie arrived, we've had one day to get out and do a little shopping. It was truly a beautiful sunny day, something not seen enough of around here.

I found this beautiful bed for Daisy Lu that will bring us both a little sunshine everyday, and a little cow for cream!Yesterday we were back to the big snow so we did a little art work.
I did a little art with the camera...and Julie did a little art work with a brush.
Mostly we've done cooking....I think I've gained 10 lbs since Julie's arrival. She LOVES to bake! And then she volunteers to do the hard labor so works off all those cookies while I just take pictures!
Here's one of her calorie burning trips to the mailbox. Even Ole wasn't going to make that trip! Not Daisy either! Good thing she got out of there in time! That could have hurt! Whew!! She made it!I'm going to start my exercise routine today!

Will She or Wont She?

Julie is thinking of getting chickens so I'm giving her the opportunity to see what it's like by sending her out with the guineas every now and then. Yesterday evening she volunteered to go put the guineas to bed. Here she is closing the door.
But there were two stories going on here. You would have to click on to see it but Daisy Lu is on her way to trouble...just up and to the left of the tree. Ole is minding his own business. Julie fixed the door props and Ole notices Daisy's head buried in the snow.Julie says goodnight through the window and Ole is planning on tattling on Daisy Lu. "Look at her Julie...I think she's eating poop or something!!" "Daisy Lu!" says Julie "what are you doing???"
"Play with me Julie!! I would never do that!" Ole chimes in! But it's just too cold to play so Ole decides to take the matter into his own hands. "I'll stop her from that disgusting habit!" "maybe it was just a mouse""oh dear Julie is leaving...what's going on here?" "Get your little butt home dog!" "if only I wasn't so slow"Now the question we will try to find out is....will Julie decide to get chickens?
We'll just have to wait and see.

Sunday

The first full day of Julie's visit we decided to strap on the snowshoes and make a trek around the trail. The sun was actually out and we took advantage of it while we could. Take a look at that wall of clouds to the south. That is the lake effect snow that has been hammering the area for quite some time now. This band which dumped over 42 inches in Adams NY in 24 hours shifted up here for the whole day yesterday. We were just on the edge of it so only got about 6 inches but Adams has received over 200 inches of snow, and Watertown, closer to me 146" this winter. Today we a going to have a break, but tonight, we'll be back to it. HELLO!!Ole needs snowshoes. I had to carry Daisy Lu a little bit. Mostly to keep her from chasing the deer! This was a tough walk and believe it or not Julie never fell down...me either (for once)! The blue sky, and very old fort.Sideways snowshoeing is always a good time! Yesterday, we hunkered down and read garden books all day!

Oh the Irony and A very naughty dog...

This winter has brought many a chuckle to my mouth, it's going to be expensive but I think quite comical.
And now for your enjoyment...
The guineas came out last Friday when it was actually a normal winter day in the upper 30's.
The snow was deep but they decided they'd had enough of the coop.
If it just wasn't for that Pesky dog!
Now just to prove that that these guineas weren't too concerned over that naughty dog, they were all happily napping in the sun shortly after.

Disclaimer...No dogs were spanked in this video...even though he deserved it.

My cousin is on her way!

Julie and Morgan at Stonewall Kitchen at The Old Port in Portland, Maine. We're getting a winter visit from my cousin Julie!
We'll be having as much fun as we can have in the cold and blustery north country, and hopefully will have adventures to share.

Light at the end of the Tunnel with "Nature's Garden" Magazine!

I know it's only January and I live in the north and this is just the usual expected weather so I'm not complaining...really...I'm not...well maybe just a little! However I did get out shopping yesterday and noticed the beginning of the taunting of the mega stores....they are in the process of putting out all the new and latest gardening supplies, outdoor furniture and temptations! I can see getting ready for spring in a place like Alabama, but can we hold off up here until there is even a glimmer of warming sun!
At any rate I did receive my free issue of "Nature's Garden" Magazine...one of my very favorites!
Why is it free you ask?!!
If you notice it says up there on the right hand side "Shutterbugs!! See your photos in a future issue!" Well this is the second photo of mine seen in the issues of "Nature's Garden"!
The first was the beautiful Garden Spider I took at my good friend June's garden and the second is the little baby Garter snake held by Morgan's sweet little hands!

So to all you wonderful Shutterbugs that visit Sunny Side Up, what could be better than seeing my favorite photographer's photos in my favorite magazine!!

Get busy!!!

This Weekend...

Buddy just couldn't stand being all cooped up so on Sunday he and he alone decided to come looking for Morgan. He flew all the way from the coop to the house and started calling.Morgan was finishing up her chores, so I went out and gave him an arm to the picnic table. Ole would have liked to have given him a mouth to the table but I said NO!
Yeah, you keep a good eye on him Buddy!Morgan finally got out and they visited for a bit then she gave him a piggy back ride to the coop. I really think he just loves all the fun they have together. On Sunday the snow started up again and no one came out but they had visitors.Ole is always trying to lend a mouth!! You be good you naughty boy!
We're hoping for a little sun today but it's still snowing out there this morning.

Lake Effect Update

Well the skies here at home are clearing up but I was sent some pictures from Watertown today and thought I would share them with you. My friends Dick and Marion had a rough night, with non-stop snow. This is just an arbor in their garden. And those feeders are no where near the ground!
Rachel was at her best friend Jackie's house last night and this is what was waiting for them in the driveway! Jackie and her snow blower! Did you lose it in the snow??? Rachel sees the fun in all situations! It did start to snow here but not like it did just 2 miles south of here. Time to refresh the feeder. The sun is coming out! And I thought I would let you know the guineas, although extremely bored, are warm and healthy. If not a little confused.Hi Buddy...would you hold still for the camera!!!
