A few days ago, while walking in the yard checking my gardens and trees I noticed a dead twig sticking out of my Tiger Eyes Sumac....so I went to pick it off.... and it went soft....
It freaked me out at first and then I laughed. After looking it up on bugguide.net and found it was a Common Gray Moth caterpillar....
Eve, LOL.. I remember when my oldest was about 2yrs old. We found a caterpillar, and he picked it up and was letting it crawl around on his hand. it started feeling his finger with its mouth and he innocently looked at me and asked what it was doing.. (hehe) I made the HUGE mistake of saying "It's tasting you!" He freaked.. screamed and flung the bug across the yard. I still laugh to think about it.. I can just see you trying to pick of the "stick" Have a great day and thanks for sharing

Ooh - what a surprise!
Glad you moved it, you wouldn't want it munching on those nice looking sumac blossoms.
Eve,
that is very odd.
That's funny! I would have probably dropped my camera! How amazing that it looks so stick-like.
What a weird looking bug Eve! I think we have a moth over here that looks exactly like a birch twig, called a Buff tip. Aint nature amazing!
