Even though it was a non-stop drizzle yesterday I decided I had to get out. I grabbed the camera and so as not to waste gas ran an errand in town. On the way home I stopped in the “Salmon Fishing Capital of the World” Dexter, NY to marvel at the awesome power of the mighty Black River!
Standing at this sight gets my heart racing just a bit and I am not afraid to admit I have a deep respect for keeping my distance from this raging beast.
The water comes from every direction.
This is always a wild time for the Black River, and even the most daring whitewater kayakers keep their distance. Believe me, upstream is a nightmare of rapids.
But just around the corner life is calm...
and the water is peaceful just before the crash....
Next stop, Dexter Marsh where my Hooded Mergansers are more at home...
and Red-winged blackbirds love to sing.

Well you're not just a nature girl...you're a smart girl to go SW at this time of year!!! I have birder friends that are in Arizona right now too! Well, it wont be long before this is the better place to be. I enjoyed your blog, I'll stop by and visit as well!
I like your version of the Black River much better: my husband, Greg, is one of those white water paddlers, and he loves the Black when it's at its crazy spring flow levels. He's the only person I know who gets super excited when the National Weather Center cuts into NPR annoucing flood-stage rapids on local rivers. I'll take my water flat and calm--or at least gently moving--thank you very much.

I'm with you! Although I don't have a kayak yet, I guess it's in my plans for the future tho.(I'm getting all worked up about getting the motorcycle out today, just to start her up!). I think I'll be in the slow go for kayaking!

What violent looking water. I would love to try the slow(fuzzy) water technique there..( Yes that is my technical term for it.LOL)
