Frogging...

But what better to blog about than nature! Ari the Canine Naturalist and her friend Kathryn http://outwithari.blogspot.com/ did a nice write up on the Peepers that are breaking eardrums throughout the northeast this time of year. Now this is no peeper but believe me this bullfrog has plenty of peeper friends in my pond. I've noticed plenty frog eggs in the pond popping up everywhere. Of all the amphibians the gray tree frog has to be my favorite. I'm already hearing a few out there. I'll never forget the year one made its home on our deck out back. Each evening (or even during the day if I ran the hose) we would hear him calling out for a mate. He became something of a pet as he would greet us every morning by the slider door. When we realized he was enjoying all the bugs by the light there, we decided to leave it on at night for his pleasure. As the days grew shorter and nights cooler I would tend to bring in a couple of my potted annuals with the chance of frost. What a surprise I had more than once to find my buddy the tree frog had hitched a ride in on the pot to spend a warm evening in the house! Ain't nature grand!

I love your bullfrog photo! Now if we could just get a peeper to cooperate long enough for one of us to snap a picture!

Thanks so much for featuring my blog today--I'm really honored. Happy spring!!

Great photo and write up Eve. I love the silly look on it's face.We used to have frogs near our old place, and they could litterally keep you awake at night if it rained. thanks for sharing

I enjoyed your story today. I like hearing the gray treefrogs too but they usually don't start calling around here until the end of May or beginning of June. I took photos of peepers a few years ago, I wandered in a wet area after dark wearing waders and holding a flashlight, my neighbors probably thought I was nuts. I'll have to look for those photos to post.

Went to your link on the peepers and played the video. It sounded just like my backyard last night. Their sound however is a novelty to my 1 year old Wheaten (Bailey). So while I was washing car, Bailey was at the end of her run howling up a storm at this new sound. Last week it was geese.

If I didn't mention it, your Daffodil from your Saturday's post should be framed and hanging where it can be appreciated by all.

That's a great picture! How fun that your little friend would wind up in the house with you - great story. I see you've got rain today....sigh...it was really pretty (and warm!) here over the weekend, but the rain is due any minute now and the temps are supposed to drop again..!

Hello Danni!
I knew you would love the pet tree frog story!!! We always leave the light on if we hear one out there, just to let them know we care!
