Shooting Sunrise

I think on average I get more of these types of shooting sunrises than rainbows. It's a good trade off.
I really don't know if there is a term for this phenomenon but "Shooting Sunrise" seems appropriate to me!
This was yesterdays sky...today it's a rainy and snowy dark sky.

Lucky you, my house is surrounded by trees so I never get to see the sunrise. I have to go down the road a little bit where it's more open.

I think it's a bit of a trade off as well John, trees bring a beauty of their own.

Whatever you call it, I call it simply beautiful! The color in these is just gorgeous! I'm like John and can't get any good sunrise photos from my house...of course I would have to get up in time for the sunrise, also :-)

That's just amazing. Glorious colours. Like Mary I'd have to first get up in time and also get out of doors as I can't see the sun come up from our house. Thanks for sharing these dawns with us Evie!

Beautiful sunrise. I started working evening shift 6 years ago. The last day I worked dayshift the sunrise was like this. I shot 20 pictures, on film. I love those photos, but since they are film, can't share. Now I have to get up special for the sunrise to catch one. I say as I sit here typing at sunrise time. (Couldn't sleep!)

This is commonly referred to as a sun pillar. Often you will see way off to the right or left, located horizontally to with the sun a similar band, not nearly as tall. These are sun dogs.

Setting all that aside, you have some cool images.

Thanks so much Steve! I've heard of and seen sun dogs but never heard the name for these sun pillars! I've never seen setting pillars only rising. They are always beautiful. Thanks so much for letting me know this! Fantastic!
