Keeping Me Safe....

Yesterday morning while walking to let the guineas out for their morning run, I was startled by a large creature that popped up out of nowhere and plopped itself in the small tree in my back yard. This Great Blue Heron had a time of getting righted in the small branches while listening to Daisy Lu yapping up a storm!!
After a minute of that, he decided enough was enough... and hightailed it to a better spot, most likely on the lake. Daisy did a great job of defending the yard... just don't tell her the big blue fellow had already left!

Hi Eve
Great that you had your camera handy for the event. Well done Daisy Lu, wonder dog! (-: Do you think the heron was a young one? What did the Guineas think of this long legged long neck beastie?

Great photos of it in the tree! You were quick with the camera. Daisy Lu is a hard-working little dog :-) Shepherd to the flock, guard dog....does she fetch your camera for you?

Hello Eve

I must remember to carry my camera with me more often - I'm sure I must miss quite a lot of photo opportunities, like your one. Lovely shots by the way :-)

Best wishes, Adgi

Good, brave, lion-hearted Daisy, protecting her family from flying invaders!!! Truly lovely photos Eve. What a beautiful bird the Great Blue Heron is and you caught it perfectly.

Hi Jenny, Mary, Adgi, Lynne and Denise!
Actually I had to run in the house and get the camera…but I didn’t have far to go!
I think if I asked her Daisy would get or carry the camera for me for sure! Jenny the guineas never got to see the heron close up because I hadn’t let them out yet. I can just imagine all the encounters they have out and about when I’m not around. I did however see a bunny scurry away from them one morning!

Great shots of the heron - I think it's always exciting to see one.

Look at that stance in the second to the last picture! Good girl, Daisy Lu! :-)

Looks like if it wanted to, the heron could've carried Daisy off.

Good captures! My Toby always chases these guys away too. Don't they sound positively prehistoric?

Cheers, Yvonne

Thanks Yvonne! Theres nothing better than seeing (or hearing) a dinosaur in the morning!!
