Eve's Oak Nut Tree....

I have the best friends you could ask for! If you remember back to me writing about them in "My Second Favorite Place to Be..." http://sunnysideup-eve.blogspot.com/2008/03/my-second-favorite-place-to-be.html you know that I spend as much time at their farm as I think they can put up with. I say this because I can be more than a handful at times! With my opinions and rantings on the happenings of the times...you see I'm not always Sunny Side Up! I know they love me though and one of the reasons I think they put up with me is for my entertainment value alone! I love to tell stories. We had these two over a few weeks ago for a fun cookout/get together and of course I was telling them about the digging of my garden and a treasure I found while shaking out the sod. As they waited for the end of the story, I ran inside a grabbed a little zip-lock baggie with a wet paper towel inside. Taking out the towel and opening it up, I reveled what I had found..."Look I found an 'Oak Nut' in the garden and decided to see if it would germinate!!!"
Now we all get old and forgetful, but being a very creative person, when I had a loss for the word 'acorn' I managed to come up with 'oak nut' without skipping a beat. Well, this brought on a round of laughs and in the years to come as this little sprout gets bigger it will always be known as "Eve's Oak Nut Tree"!

Have a great weekend!!

Hey Eve,

This means we will have to alter the old saying,
"From little Oak nuts grow big Oak trees". !!!

I'm glad that "oak nut" germinated for you. You'll have to keep us updated on the progress once you plant it outside.

Roy...I'm glad to help bring out new updated sayings!!

John...I'll keep you posted...with not a lot of soil depth around here it'll be a challenge to find a good spot to plant it!

Really funny story :-) Still laughing. Quick thinking. I hate it when my mind goes blank for a perfectly common ordinary word. I hope Eve's Oak Nut tree becomes the biggest and best Oak Nut tree around.

Aw, fun story. Which reminds me...it's about time for some more photos from your "second favorite place to be", isn't it? :-)

Hi Eve: I have two lovely young oaks at my house that grew from "oak nuts". Both are now about 12 feet tall, and one is red oak, the other a burr oak. Don't let anyone tell you oaks don't grow fast. Both of mine have only been growing for about 6 or 7 years. One of them, the burr oak, must have been planted by a squirrel. I started the other one in a pot.

Cheers, Yvonne
