Discussions at the Feeder

It's a lot of fun to watch how birds interact at the feeders. You never know who's going to be at the top of the pecking order when size isn't that much of a factor.
The body language of the Goldfinch seems to be saying "I'm preparing for trouble".The White-breasted Nuthatch will wait his turn.Sometimes you really want to take a second look at the birds at the feeders. You never know what you might find. See the bird on the right. He's a little more yellow than the drab American Goldfinch. That's because he's a Pine Warbler taking his stance at the sunflower seed feeder. And a tough stance he's taken! You best listen too...my beak it pointer than yours! Now that we know who's boss...I'll let you back in. But aren't I still a cutie! The White-throated Sparrow doesn't have anything to do with them up there, but believe me he's no slouch when it comes to being top dog.Ok, we're all friends again now.Just as long as we know how to play the game.

What a cutie little pine warbler! Love the nuthatch and goldfinches as well, and isn't mr. white throated sparrow a smart and beautiful bird, staying well away from the squabbles? Bird Feeder Drama - a great wintertime activity! I miss it - thanks for letting me enjoy the birds via you, missy! (oh...I spied a nuthatch flitting about our trees just yesterday - need to head to Lowes to get some supplies!

What a great find at your feeder Evie! I looked him up in Sibley to see where he gets to in winter and you're right on the range there in N bama. Lovely WB Nuthatch photos too, they're give us such photogenic poses! (-:

Enjoyed the series of photos Eve. My poor birds are outdone by all the squirrel activity going on at their feeder. Do you have squirrels there in Northern Alabama? I bet Southern squirrels are better behaved than Yankee squirrels!

Those Nuthatches are so funny! Sometimes they wait but sometimes they just bust right in if there's another Nuthatch eating. So quirky and cute!

I see your Goldfinches look like ours, very dull. We have 2, that's it. Sometimes I think I hear more in the trees but they don't come down to eat.

Every year I keep telling myself we need to set up a feeder. Nice series of photos, Eve. It's must be fun to watch them go about their day.

Thanks to all the nice commenters! Yes Julie the woods are loaded with squirrels. I think Ole keeps them away during the day but at night...who knows what goes on out there!!
