The gardens are still going strong here in the rainy south. As soon as the sun pops out so do the butterflies. I'm seeing Gulf Fritillaries again. This one perched on this beautiful pink Sedum. Now I had a number of plants here that I did not know. This one gave me some grief because it was covered in huge leaves and just kept getting bigger and bigger, in my sunny island, creating shade I didn't think I wanted. However I got an email from the original gardener/homeowner and she wrote...WAIT!...and see how beautiful they are!
Something is happening......oh and don't forget the American Lady... What is this? WOW! Now I can see why they call them Angel Trumpets. They are quite tall, over my head and smell wonderful in the evening.
Yesterday I saw a hummingbird looking up in there. I think that might be a little scary for them but maybe I can get a picture of one looking into that BIG feeder!

Those Angel Trumpets are beautiful! I've seen them before and didn't know the name. I always think the flower looks like a dancing lady's skirts. Glad you waited to see what they were! Beautiful butterflies. This is a great time of year for those of us not so far north.
A hummer in one would be awesome! Good luck!
I can see you out there, camo clothes and hat, skulking about, sneaking closer and closer, camera poised for the capture....
Good luck, Eve!
Wow so glad you waited...what an awesome surprise to find it flowering..and now if that little hummer would only hear your wish!!
Lovely photos of those butterflies!
Your butterfly photos are absolutely gorgeous. I think I make the mistake sometimes of getting too close to the subject to show the detail and miss out on the wider picture. I love that first one particularly. Would make a great card me thinks! (-: I'm glad the wait for your surprise plant to flower is over. What a stunning bloom!
Beautiful, The butterfly is so nice. I wanted to thank you for all your wonderful comments on my blog. It makes me smile
...the first photo is stunning. I like that little butterfly. My parents had a few plants of the Angel Trumpets show up in their back yard...total volunteers! They also grew well over 6 feet. Very cool flowers...
Beautiful butterfly photo. I'm glad you patiently waited for the Angel Trumpet to blossom, their fragrance is lovely. Can't wait to see what garden discoveries you will uncover this fall.
Eve: that first butterfly shot is a real winner. I love it!
Eve I am on board with everyone else and think the first butterfly picture is special. Your sedum is still light pink, ours is much darker now.
I have never seen Angel Trumpets and I am all about flowers smelling wonderful in the evening. I can always smell my petunias best then. I think we will have to add an Angel Trumpet to our little bit of country.
Beautiful butterflies Evie.
What a lovely surprise! Your photos of the butterflies are really wonderful too.
That is the fun of moving into a new area, finding all sorts of different things.
I would have thought it was a weed Eve and yanked it right out! Good thing you and the former owner have stayed in touch.
Hope to see a hummer photo! Ours are long gone : (
OMG I was wondering what that plant was in the second picture, I was surprised to see that those things were flowers!! I don't know much about plants. So cool :)
I'm glad you didn't chop it down! :) Very nice!
Love the butterfly photo. Those Angel Trumpets are so nice, glad you didn't pull them before you got to see them bloom. Wish they were hardy here, but don't seem to be.
