Buck's Pocket

ROAD TRIP!!Buck's Pocket State Park is not more than a 35 mile drive from home.
Now let me tell you...if you suffer from a fear of heights like me, you may have a bit of an issue here.
As you can see I liked to keep my feet firmly in the woods. But every chicken must go out on a limb sometimes...if only there was a rail. What a stunning place.I didn't see any birds...but I really didn't spend much time looking up. Mostly I looked at Morgan making sure I was close to her and she wasn't close to any edges. Every view was stunning and the trees beautiful. The rest of the photos are courtesy of my brave husband. He spent way too much time hanging over edges and traversing steep grades. Many rock edges looked like this, and underneath looked like this, and this. Luckily for me there were some places with a rail so I could hang over the edge with a smile on my face. Buck's Pocket. Another beautiful place to be in Northern Alabama.

Even with a railing I'm still not sure I could lean out! Heights really bother me too.

Wonderful place! Luckily your husband took some great shots of the view. The layers and layers are rock really show the history of the park.

Wow, makes me realize that I haven't got the foggiest idea of what the topography of Alabama is like. Lovely!

Hi Eve- I'm so glad that you got a chance to visit Buck's Pocket! The legend is that that is where defeated politicians that have lost the governor's race go after losing the election. As you discovered- the "drops" at Buck's Pocket are extraordinary! I will only take my older kids there as it is just too easy to fall without railings for someone who is careless. That canyon is the deepest canyon this side of the Mississippi River. Great photos!

Looks like a pretty cool place to go hiking. Thanks for hanging on. Height is not a problem as long as you're the one leaning over with the camere!

Buck's Pocket. What a cool name and I am going to google. I was wondering about some history and Daniel provided some. We were in Alabama a little over a year and never saw that part of the state.

Just awesome pictures and love seeing you and Morgan.

What spectacular scenery! Very pretty place! I'd stay away from the edges, too. What a strange name...Buck's Pocket.....wonder why they named it that.
