For the Birds

I heard another bird that sounded like a robin but not. I knew it wasn't a Summer Tanager because it didn't have that now familiar melody. So I searched the treetops and looky there! A Scarlet Tanager! I'd seen just a few of these beauties up north but not on my property. They obviously like the woods and I didn't have that habitat there. He was sneaky and at a distance so it wasn't an easy shot.I'm at the bottom of their breeding range, so we'll see if they stick around this summer. And for the non-shy abundant bird, here is one of my two male Ruby-throated Hummingbirds keeping an eye on his feeder. They really enjoy a good fight and sometimes...can be a little rude! I really don't think that is necessary!

Hi Eve! Found my way here by way of Shelley's blog. I am thoroughly enjoying your blogs. We have two summer tanagers and their girlie girls. They spent last summer with us and are back. They follow us all over! I am going to get back to reading your blogs!

Scarlet Tanagers are one of my favorite birds. I haven't seen one in awhile. I'm glad you got a photo of one. Taking photos of hummingbirds are a blast! Great shots!

Nice! I had the same thing happen to me last week, I heard a Robin with a soar throat and it turned out to be a Scarlet "Teenager"! I had two sightings, both were in the tops of trees.

You got some fun pictures! Love the Ruby-throat.

I'm so sorry that you are having bandwidth issues with the DSL. I hope you can get it resolved.

That hummer is saying 'my tongue is longer than yours, so there!' That's my favourite photos here.

Great to have both those Tanagers there, I wonder if the Western ever gets over to your part of the world, maybe only as a vagrant.

Great shot of the hummer sticking out its tongue. I've seen them do it at my feeder but haven't photographed it yet.
