Looking for a good post...

I was out of ideas for a post this morning, when my trusty friend Ole found me one.
Now Old Ole has given up on deer...he's to fat to chase...and turkeys...they're too much like guinea fowl...but Woodchucks....now they're fair game!! Until MOM came by and told him he couldn't play with them either!
Now that's not a flattering picture.That's a little better.
Have you ever heard a Woodchuck growl? I have to say he was very happy to see me and was very polite while I rounded up the Woodchuck Hound.

Great post Evie, I've never seen a Woodchuck before. Kind of cute I think. Do they hibernate or what?
Good old Ole. (-:

They do hibernate Jenny. So maybe his showing up is a good sign that spring is on the way...although it is another bitter day. Ole is letting him know that he is not welcome as I'm sure he would love to eat some of my flowers before they come up!!

What a sweet, vulnerable little guy! I'm glad this woodchuck is okay. Meanwhile, Ole's hunt for a post for you was a complete success, so all's well that ends well.

I keep thinking of that movie Caddy Shack w/ Bill Murray. Was his nemesis the woodchuck? I can't remember. But I do like your photos of him. Poor Ole - maybe you should get him his own stuffed woodchuck toy that squeaks.

I HAVE heard a woodchuck growl! I got too close taking pictures and it growled and almost made a funny woof sound. Stomped its front feet too. I ran.

Ha ha Lynne! I believe you!!! Don't mess with that little critter!

Why, being from Vermont, I do know a thing or two about woodchucks. I even have woodchuck as part of an email adress, by golly.

I was walking through a hay field and came across a woodchuck on the path in the tall grass. We surprised each other. He when up on his hind feet and growled and snarled.

Those photos are absolutely fabulous!

We had a beagle whose nemesis was a woodchuck: the rodent had figured out EXACTLY how long the beagle's lead line was, and it would stand just two inches away from the length of the line. That guy wasn't growling, though. I'm pretty sure he was laughing.

Hi Kathryn...very funny story! I can just see it now!

Hi Barb...yes they are one it the same. It seems a love hate relationship with these guys, because of the damage they can do in the garden. I remember a groundhog I used to pass by on the way to work every morning. I called him "old man". I would say "good morning old man" when I saw him sitting by the road watching the traffic go by. He was always there for years and never dead in the road!!! Ha Ha!

These are good shots! I can't believe it didn't take off somewhere. Guess it couldn't outrun Ole and had to hide instead. I've only seen them at a distance..never this close.

That little woodchuck is cute as a button. Love the buckteeth!

Yep, I use the term groundhog too, but woodchuck is more flattering. I hearby announce that I will use woodchuck for now on. I'm sure they will appreciate it!

Growling Woodchucks, very interesting! I would probably run too, after the final shutter clicks.

I loved your story!

Ole was a gentleman. Winslow, the Carin Terrier, a breed known for being an earth dog or earth dirt digging dog, went into the woodchuck hole and had a conversation with it's dweller. Needless to say there was one less woodchuck in my field that summer

...first time here. I don't know how I haven't found you before. You have a very fun site, and that woodchuck, Ole, is cute, cute, cute! ...love that tooth shot!
