Bird Quiz

This fellow forages high in the canopy but it will perch in the open.
He is quite LOUD with his whee-eep call. They are quite common in deciduous or mixed forests during breeding and can be found across the east and central US.
Up north I had to travel to the woods to see them but here they are everywhere.
Hopefully I'll get a color photo for you after you guess from the silhouette!
Good luck to you and wish me luck too!

Evis it is hard to tell the size but is it a Phoebe or some kind of Flycatcher? We have a mama Phoebe sitting on a nest on out gutter downspout! Cool shot, I love bird silhouettes.

Hmmm, I sadly don't know my birds. I wanted to thank you for commenting on my blog. It is really sweet

I am stumped but am excited to find out who he is!

Hmm. The silhouette looks like some kind of fly catcher- I would normally guess the Phoebe, but the Phoebe doesn't have the call you described. So, I'll go out on a limb and guess the Great Crested Flycatcher.

When I saw the word quiz my hands started sweating! Okay, I was going to say Flycatcher, and I promise I did not cheat! I could not tell you if It was Great-Crested or not, I'll leave that to the birding experts!

I'm going with Great Creasted Flycatcher.

I'm not even going to try and guess. I'll just say it's a very cool silhouette (he's quite regal), and just wait for the answer!

Great job everyone! Great Crested Flycatcher it is! I'm hoping to get a nice picture one day. Last year I caught one just leaving a branch and missed half of it. They have a great loud call and are fun to hear every day. Thanks for playing along!

Too late to guess, but glad to know what it is! Hope you get a better photo soon!

I am not reading any of the other comments, but from the comment you left me, I can bet it's a summer tanager. Good luck on photos!
