Apartment Life

Well we're in this apartment for the next few days until we close on our house. It's amazing because we are in the heart of the city...I guess...there is a train that runs behind the complex, helicopters going over head all day and all the sounds of city life around us. But the nature is still amazing. There are beautiful trees with new fresh leaves all around us... ...and a view of a space ship from the back yard! I so wanted to get both flags open in the shot but it was not to be done. Close but no cigar! These beautiful oaks just bring a smile to my face!I sure wish I knew the name of this tree. Some kind of Fir? This culvert is just full of life and last night it was flowing after the tornado sirens ceased blowing!
Tomorrow is a new adventure and I get to go see the house for the first time!

Great set of photos Eve, must be so different yet exciting to experience all the newness of it all, and yes the nature is there even in the city. I'm afraid I've drawn a blank on that tree you asked about but I'll do my best to try and remember it for you. I can honestly say it is not anything to do with our friend Cleome ;)

I think it's incredibly adventurous of you to pack up & move without ever having seen your new home in the flesh.

Very cool having a space ship in your backyard!

The space ship is kooky.

I've only been thru alabama once, but I think I recognize the rocket...Is it off a major highway? 75 or something??? Anyway, glad you found some serentiy in the city, but tornado sirens on the first day? Come on! Good luck today!

Tornado sirens on the first day, oh lordy. First up grade at the new house, dig a hole so you all can jump in! I remember passing through Alabama and sirens went of, what an eerie feeling. I don't believe I could adjust to that, everything else I would luv!

Oh how exciting and love how you've noticed and captured the bit of nature in the city, "you can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the girl".

Glad to see you get settled in. I had more tornado warnings in Tennessee that I did in Colorado. I was a bit surprised. It's going to be interesting to see what you have for us in the future.

That's a lovely fresh green on those Oaks Evie. I think the other tree might be some kind of pine, but not sure at all! Good luck as you see your house and grounds for the first time. I hope you bump into those Guineas, that would be a great start! (-:

I think I know which apartments you're in. Not the best complex in Huntsville, but you won't be there long and you do get a good view of the that awesome rocket at the space center.

When I moved to Huntsville from Dallas, I was struck by the mix of city and country in Huntsville. And the fact that every other person you meet...is a Rocket Scientist. Really! I do LOVE that city...and Guntersville.

Thank you for the sweet comment about the tortoiseshell. Her new home is working out great.

Gee, it seems so funny to see green leaves and space ships from the window! It would be strange to wake up and see all these new things! Can't wait to hear all about the house and the grounds, Eve!

Thank you all for your comments. We just got back from a long nature walk with the dogs...we're all exhusted!!! It's very hard to try to bird and photograph with the pups but maybe I got a few pictures to post later or tomorrow.

Carla...no this isnt the best place in town but it'll have to do for a couple more days...PLEASE just a couple. We're trying to make the best of it. My husband lived here close to work for the few months while we sold our house up north. It's too bad we just couldn't move right in but some things just dont work out! Still this is a very beautiful city. I love the "rocket scientist" comment!!! Very funny!

Glad you made it safely through the storms! Wonderful time to be there with everything greening up. Looks like a White Pine to me. I have a row of them between my house and the neighbor. Looking forward to seeing the house through your eyes!

It must be so good to have some warm weather! Glad to hear the dogs are doing well, I was wondering. To me the whole situation would be very stressful but you sound optomistic Eve.

Before you know it, you'll be typing y'all on your blog! lol!

Hope you get a pleasant surprise Evie when you first see it all.

Hi Eve, I stumbled across your site while I was going down the list of favorite blogs on the "My Bird Tales" blog. Imagine my surprise when I saw the rockets and the Alabama flag. And then I noticed that "Sunny Side Up" was your blog- with the updated Grant, AL location. It will be nice to have another nature blogger here in North Alabama- welcome again! I look forward to following your blog! :) By the way- that tree that you were asking about is probably a Long leaf Pine- but I'm not certain of that. It might also be another kind of pine like a Loblolly- I don't think it is a Short-leaf Pine.
