Let me just explain...I'm not on vacation...who needs to vacation when you live in the sunny south, but my daughter Rachel is here from the cold north to spend time with us while Morgan is on her school vacation.
They were kind enough to go with me to Guntersville to check out some gulls reported at the pier. They braved the wind while I took photos. My bird pictures aren't the greatest but this is a California Gull here in Alabama.
It's the big one on the left, confirmed by my birder friends at the Yahoo group Albirds. I also got a Lesser Black-backed Gull, both life birds for me.Back home the birds are enjoying the sunny weather and there are quite a few following Rachel's lead and coming down for vacation.
I've seen a few Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers.
(again sorry about the photo quality all the birds decided to be as high up at the could get)An American Robin, and the Northern Flicker, Alabama's State Bird
aka in Alabama as the "Yellowhammer". We have been making the rounds between my bird peeping.
We went shopping, and across the street to meet my good friend and neighbor Krista.
She took us on a walk to see her beautiful property. Then we went to a private home here on Gunter Mountain.
It is the most stunning place you would ever want to live.
They have a waterfall in their front yard and a stone house they built from the rocks on their property. More waterfalls surround the house and they have caves as well. The gardens are spectacular. It was a very bright day and the photos are not the greatest. (I didn't have my flash).
But I'll post some pictures of the waterfalls next time.
See you then.

Hey Evie, its good to see Rachel on a visit to you. Rachel and Morgan are super models for your photographs. Its funny to hear that you have seen the Lesser black-backed gull for the first time. They are very common over here. Look forward to the waterfall shots.

How nice to have your daughter visiting! Glad you had such a great time and the girls look perfect there by the water. Interesting gulls. I haven't seen my sapsucker in a long time. I think he only comes in the last winter when the sap is running. They are hard to get photos of and I think yours look great.

Visiting your blog is always a vacation for me, Eve! That rock house looks so inviting. I can practically hear Tom Bombadil singing to and about Goldberry, can't you? What lovely girls you have! Yes, they are the perfect models. Congrats on seeing two life-birds, dearie.

Hi Evie, I hope are and will still be having a fabulous week with your girls! I love those first two photos. Morgans hair is beautiful and the one with them both together is lovely! Glad you got to go Gull watching (much under-rated birds I think).

There's nothing wrong with your bird pictures. Now you sound like me! LOL! Wonder if I'll see Yellow Bellied Sapsuckers this winter like I did last winter?

I'll bet the girls are really enjoying their time together. Seeing Rachel go will no doubt be sad for you both.

Lovely little home. Lot's of work though, that for sure!
